Thank you for visiting Temple Hillel B'nai Torah!

HIBT is a Jewish Reconstructionist congregation in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.   We are a warm, welcoming, egalitarian, multicultural, inclusive and eclectic Jewish community drawing from Boston and its suburbs.  Our community is made up of individuals, couples and families, children and seniors, multi-racial families, gay and lesbian families, interfaith families, and members of all different Jewish backgrounds.

We are devoted to worship, study, social justice and community.  In keeping with the Jewish Reconstructionist movement, HBT is simultaneously rooted in Jewish tradition and responsive to the world we live in.  We actively engage our members in the creative process of bringing new perspectives to tradition and making tradition meaningful to contemporary lives.

Rabbi Barbara Penzner, brings openness that is derived from a Reconstructionist perspective. She is motivated by a commitment to justice, love of Judaism, and sensitivity to our individual journeys. Our rabbi inspires us to make Judaism an essential part of everyday life.

Our vibrant Chaverim School strives to be a friendly, inclusive community for children and parents that will foster engagement in Jewish values, history, spirituality, peoplehood, and in the language of Judaism. Our aim is to instill a love of Jewish learning, to encourage parent participation in a continuum of education and practice from school to home and back, and to welcome all families to our community.

We invite you to join us for:

  • Weekly Shabbat services (10 AM - noon)
  • Monthly Shakin' Shabbat for children up to 6 and their families followed by community Shabbat dinner (selected Friday evenings at 5:30).
  • Monthly Kabbalat Shabbat and community dinner (selected Friday evenings at 6 PM).
  • Lifelong learning opportunities, including Windows and Doorways into Jewish Prayer, Never Alone: The Jewish Response to Death and Dying,  Torah Study, Shabbat Book Club, and more.
