Spring Fling FAQs

What happens at the Spring Fling? What is the program for the evening?

The event goes from 7:30 to 10:30 and starts with schmoozing, hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer until havdalah at 7:50. Formal program starts after havdalah and lasts about 45 minutes. It includes a tribute to this year's honorees. Silent auction bidding, more schmoozing and enjoying the music of the Noam Israel Quartet and refreshments take up the rest of the evening.

 Who comes to the event?

HBT members, long-time and new, old and young, come and many bring their friends. The Spring Fling is a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with old friends for extended conversation in a festive setting.

What's the story with buying (or not buying) a table?

Last year was the first time we sold tables. A few members who brought a group of outside friends found it nice to have a reserved table to sit together, and it raises a bit more money. Most people do not buy a table.

Will it be awkward or uninteresting if I don't know the people being honored?

We hope not! The Spring Fling is just as much about fundraising and socializing together as it is about honoring someone. Honoring someone in our community is rewarding and a wonderful way to learn about our members' accomplishments. Celebrating the work of temple leaders is a happy occasion and helps members get to know them better.

What sorts of items are up for bid at the silent auction?

The list above showed a sampling of auction items that will be for sale: theater, museum, aquarium tickets; handmade jewelry; restaurant gift cards; small works of art; a hotel stay; and personal services such as gardening consultation, massage, and Shabbat dinner with the Rabbi.

What if I can't afford to spend a lot of money?

Everyone is welcome to come no matter how much they are prepared to spend!

What kind of food and drink will there be?

Appetizer type food and desserts: hot hors d'oeuvres, hummus, cheese and crackers, raw vegetables, nuts and fruit, cakes and cookies.

Will there be entertainment?

This year musical entertainment will be provided by the Noam Israel Quartet.

 What do people wear??

Anything they are comfortable wearing! It's a fun occasion to dress up a bit, but there will be a mix of dresses, a few suits and many people in business casual clothing.

Bottom line, the Spring Fling is for everyone! It's fun, casual, and entertaining. This important event raises much-needed funds for the temple. Come out and support HBT. It will be a lot more fun with YOU there.
