2017 spring fling gala and fundraiser

Honoring Rich Moche

Rich has been a member of HBT with his wife Heidi Brown since 1999, and their children attended the Chaverim School. Rich is an attorney and has generously shared his deep legal knowledge when HBT needs legal counsel, and he has led several important initiatives, including the Financial Strategy Task Force, which has helped move our community toward a path of financial sustainability. He is active in the Torah study group, and leads and teaches Sephardi piyyutim during the High Holy days.

If you haven’t come to the Spring Fling before,

Check out these FAQs

What happens at the Spring Fling?  What is the program for the evening?

The event goes from 7:30 to 10:30 and starts with schmoozing, hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer until havdalah at 8:00.  The program starts after havdalah and includes a tribute to our member Rich Moche, as well as a thank you to co-presidents Jan Snitzer and Jean Weinberg.  Silent auction bidding, more schmoozing and enjoying the music and refreshments take up the rest of the evening.

Who comes to the event?

HBT members, long-time and new, old and young, come and many bring their friends.  The Spring Fling is a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with old friends for extended conversation in a festive setting.

What’s the story with buying (or not buying) a table?

Selling tables is a recent addition to the Spring Fling.  Members who brought a group of outside friends found it nice to have a reserved table to sit together, and it raises a bit more money.  However, most people do not buy a table, and you are welcome to sit wherever you like at the unreserved tables.

Will it be awkward or uninteresting if I don’t know the people being honored?

We hope not! The Spring Fling is just as much about fundraising and socializing together as it is about honoring someone.  Honoring someone in our community is rewarding and a wonderful way to learn about our members’ accomplishments.  Celebrating the work of Temple leaders is a happy occasion and helps members get to know them better.

What sorts of items are up for bid at the silent auction?

Here is a sampling of auction items that will be for sale: theater and museum tickets; restaurant gift cards; small works of art; hotel stays; sports tickets; and personal services such as gardening consultation, massage, and other creative donations from our members and friends.  A complete list has been posted on the Temple website and is updated as we receive more items.

What if I can’t afford to spend a lot of money?

Everyone is welcome to come no matter how much they are prepared to spend!  We will have some lower priced items available at the silent auction.

What kind of food and drink will there be?

An hors d’oeuvres table early in the evening and a dessert table later in the evening. There will also be wine, beer, and soft drinks.

Will there be entertainment?

This year musical entertainment will be provided by the UMass Amherst Jazz Trio.  They will play enjoyable background jazz music to create a festive atmosphere while you talk to your friends and make new friends, and bid at the silent auction.

What do people wear?

We are a pretty casual community, but the Spring Fling is a fun occasion to dress up a bit.

Bottom line, the Spring Fling is for everyone!  It’s fun, casual, and entertaining.  This important event raises much-needed funds for the Temple.  Come out and support HBT.  It will be a lot more fun with YOU there.
