In-person and on Zoom
(we encourage in-person attendance!)
On Yom HaShoah this year, we will have an Extended Moment for Ma'ariv as we - together as an HBT community - honor the victims of the Holocaust and their loved ones. There are many family Holocaust stories within our own congregation, and this year, we will be hearing from Rachel Becker, Boston-based writer, educator, Chaverim parent, and granddaughter of Hilda and Michael Stevens, both Holocaust survivors. Rachel will share her grandparents' harrowing stories of survival and honor their memory with several original poems. There will be time to reflect and discuss, and we will conclude the evening with a traditional ma'ariv (evening) service, with special additions to the service for Yom HaShoah.
Rachel Becker's poetry appears or is forthcoming in journals including North American Review, Crab Orchard Review, Post Road, Poetry South, Rust & Moth, Bracken, and RHINO, and she’s published both local author round-ups and an interview with Ross Gay in the Boston Globe’s Living Art’s Section. She is also a poetry editor for Porcupine Literary: A journal by and for teachers. She teaches English and Creative Writing in Newton, MA.
