HBT’s Solar Panel Campaign

Temple Hillel B’nai Torah is taking an important step toward a brighter and more sustainable future. Our building has served generations of families in West Roxbury, Roslindale and surrounding neighborhoods. Today we have the opportunity to care for it with the same intention and commitment that our community brings to Shabbat, holidays and learning.

This Solar Panel Campaign connects our core values with practical action. It strengthens our financial foundation, reduces our environmental footprint and ensures that HBT remains a warm, welcoming home for the next generation. It is an investment in our community’s future and in the world we want to leave to our children.

What This Project Supports

  • Replacing the aging roof to protect our sanctuary, classrooms and community spaces
  • Installing a 126-panel solar array designed to power the entire building — including the heat pumps that will replace our current oil system
  • Expanding to high-efficiency heat pumps to reduce fossil fuel use and support long term sustainability

HBT is a finalist for a potential matching grant through the Jewish Solar Challenge. Every contribution strengthens our application and supports this important community effort.

Thank you for supporting a project rooted in responsibility, community and care for our shared home. Together we can create a future powered by light.

Why This Matters

Our synagogue is more than a building. It is a place where families gather, children learn, communities support one another and we celebrate the traditions that anchor us. Taking care of this space is part of our responsibility to each other and to the generations who will come after us.

Solar power allows HBT to reduce long term costs, strengthen financial sustainability and care for the planet in a way that reflects our values. This campaign helps us build a future rooted in responsibility, stability and the Jewish commitment to creating a better world.

Thank you for being part of the community that lights the way forward.

A Community Rooted in Light

Our solar project reflects the spirit of our congregation. From Shabbat gatherings to holiday celebrations, HBT is a place where people of all ages come together to learn, sing, support one another and celebrate the light we create as a community.

A Teaching About Light

Jewish tradition reminds us that light shared only grows brighter. Hanukkah's central miracle, described in the Talmud (Shabbat 21b), tells of a single flask of oil that burned beyond its capacity — a symbol of light that extends and multiplies far beyond what we expect.

Today, we have our own opportunity to multiply light. Like that ancient miracle, our solar panels will harness light to power our community for decades to come — transforming sunlight into clean energy that serves both our congregation and our planet.

Choosing a sustainable path is one way we honor our responsibility to care for our world and for the community that depends on this building.

Join us in bringing this vision to life.
