Dvart Torah by guest speaker, Leora Mallach, co-founder of Beantown Jewish Gardens.
You are what you eat: An Exploration of Food Justice As the saying goes, our consumption fuels our bodies and our minds. What guides our decision making in the food we purchase? Leora Mallach, Director of Beantown Jewish Gardens, leads an exploration of the ethics of our food journey and the role our Jewish and our community values play in our food choices. Leora Mallach co-launched Beantown Jewish Gardens in 2011, building community through experiential agriculture and food system education rooted in Jewish text, tradition, and culture. In that capacity, she has established Jewish educational vegetable gardens around town and is networking the greater Boston Jewish community, especially through events such as the Boston Jewish Food Conference (which HBT has often sponsored) and the Ta’amim Tovim Education Series: Putting Our Food Values into Action. When not creating new paradigms in the Jewish community, she can be found drinking tea, doing batik artwork, or pursuing a wide range of house and yard projects.
