Torah Study with Rich Moche

We had a very engaging conversation on Balak on Saturday, reading the text carefully to see what we could glean from it about what kind of man Bilaam was and then comparing our conclusions to the Midrash’s verdict. And then considering the story’s relevance to the present day.  https://youtu.be/H8BY1T5PIcE

Parshat Emor. We had a great discussion on the Blasphemer and the timeless dilemma of achieving justice, particularly for outsiders.  - https://youtu.be/iLLtWMn2zlk

We had a lively and engaging session yesterday on Parshat Tzav. We went on a little adventure – focusing on a single word in the portion, marked by an unusual Trope called “shalshelet”, that appears only four times in the entire Torah. We navigated through the first three (all in Genesis). By finding the through line from the first three appearances, we came to the deeper meaning of the passage in Tzav where it is employed for the last time and from there a deeper appreciation for Moshe and Aaron. - https://youtu.be/hsj0JXsQHvE

We had a great study session today, diving into the episode on Mount Sinai where Moshe bears the brunt of G-d's anger over the Golden Calf. For starters, we consider the question of how you talk down someone from their anger. Then we watch Moshe get to the heart of why G-d is so angry and find the words to assuage that anger. How does he do it? Just after that, Moshe has his own fit of anger, smashing the tablets. Are those incidents of anger related? We uncover a surprising connection between Moshe and another legendary figure in the Torah. And finally, how does the census that starts off the parsha relate to the episode of the Golden Calf and Moshe’s intercession with G-d? Listen in as the HBT Torah scholars try to make sense of it all. - https://youtu.be/Ph4aar5VHpI
