Shabbat Rina and Potluck

Here is what you can expect at Shabbat Rina:

Shabbat Rina, the sanctuary will be arranged with chairs in concentric circles, with instruments in the center. Most of our time will be spent on Kabbalat Shabbat, beginning with Yedid Nefesh, continuing with specific verses from the psalms of Kabbalat Shabbat, and including a memorable L'cha Dodi. There will be a song sheet with Hebrew, translation, and transliteration of each song. A few people will offer kavanot, or short intentions, before various verses that we sing together. Following Kabbalat Shabbat, we will have a short and songful Ma'ariv service (no more than 30 minutes), finishing with Oseh Shalom. Then we will head downstairs for a community potluck dinner.

Every voice counts at Shabbat Rina, no matter how "well" you can sing. Even if the words are new, you can always sing yai dai dai or another syllable of your choice. There is no amplification of singers and instruments during Kabbalat Shabbat, and our sound is only as potent as all our voices are together. We invite you to join us in raising our voices together, creating a circle of musical sound to welcome in Shabbat!

Families with young children are welcome to come for the first hour of music to get all their energy out with music and joy, and then go home for bedtime!

If your last name begins with H-P, please bring a side dish

If your last name begins with Q-Z, please bring a main dish

All food should be vegetarian (dairy is ok, no meat), and labeled with ingredients for allergy purposes. You should bring enough to serve 8-10 people plus a serving utensil.

The temple will provide drinks and paper products.

The temple kitchen is off-limits for potluck dinners.

Please remember to bring serving utensils for your dish!
